Vocabulary and Phrases to Use:
- Trend Descriptors: “rose steadily,” “declined sharply,” “fluctuated,” “remained stable,” “leveled off”
- Directional Words: “upward/downward trend,” “on the rise,” “falling trend,” “plateaued,” “spiked”
- Movement Terms: “climbed to,” “dropped to,” “reached,” “stabilized at,” “showed a marked increase”
- Frequency and Extent: “slightly,” “sharply,” “gradually,” “dramatically,” “consistently,” “noticeably”
Common Mistakes:
- Not Describing Trends Clearly: Avoid focusing solely on individual data points; describe overall movements like “fluctuated” or “remained steady.”
- Inconsistent Use of Past/Present Tense: Use the correct tense according to the time frame; past tense for past data and future tense for projections.
- Describing Every Data Point: Avoid listing each number. Instead, highlight key peaks, lows, and overall trends.
Example Sentence:
- “The graph shows a steady increase in internet users, reaching a peak in 2020.”
