Processes (Diagrams)
Vocabulary and Phrases to Use:
- Sequential Language: “first,” “next,” “then,” “after that,” “finally,” “subsequently,” “in the final stage”
- Action Verbs (often Passive): “is heated,” “is transported,” “is mixed,” “is produced,” “is packed,” “is stored”
- State/Transformation: “converted into,” “changed into,” “broken down into,” “transformed into”
- Linking Stages: “following this,” “in the following step,” “at the same time,” “meanwhile”
Common Mistakes:
- Not Using Passive Voice: In process descriptions, the passive voice is often needed as the focus is on actions, not the doer.
- Describing Stages Out of Order: Avoid jumping between steps, which can cause confusion.
- Forgetting to Describe the Final Outcome: Some students skip the process’s end product.
Example Sentence:
- “In the first stage, raw materials are gathered and stored for processing.”
